Frequently Asked Questions

Red Light Therapy — General

What is red light therapy?

Red light therapy (also called photobiomodulation or PBM) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular energy production (ATP). This supports collagen production, muscle recovery, pain relief, and overall skin rejuvenation — without UV, heat, or downtime.

What wavelengths do Solux devices use?

Our devices use clinically studied wavelengths, most commonly:

  • 630–660nm (Red Light) — targets surface skin for collagen stimulation, fine line reduction, and skin repair.
  • 850nm (Near-Infrared) — penetrates deep into muscle, joint, and connective tissue for recovery and pain relief.
  • Select devices (e.g. the ECLIPSE Face Mask and Red Light Dome) also include Blue (415–430nm), Yellow (590nm), Green (520nm), Cyan (490nm), and Purple for comprehensive multi-spectrum treatment.

Is red light therapy safe?

Yes. Red and near-infrared light therapy is non-invasive, drug-free, and UV-free. It is generally suitable for all skin types. Always keep your eyes closed or protected during panel and dome sessions, and avoid use over open wounds or active breakouts unless otherwise stated in the product guide. If you are pregnant, have a photosensitive condition, or are taking photosensitising medication, consult your doctor before use.

How soon will I see results?

Most users notice meaningful results after 4–8 weeks of consistent use. Skin benefits (collagen, texture, tone) typically develop over this period as collagen remodelling takes time. Muscle recovery and pain relief benefits are often felt sooner — sometimes within the first few sessions. Consistency is the single biggest factor in outcomes.

How often should I use my device?

For most devices we recommend 3–5 sessions per week for facial devices, and once or twice daily for body panels and pads. Session durations range from 10–20 minutes depending on the device. More is not always better — your cells need time between sessions to respond and regenerate. Always refer to your product’s user manual for device-specific guidance.

Can I use red light therapy alongside other skincare or recovery treatments?

Yes, in most cases. Red light therapy pairs well with serums, moisturisers, and physical recovery tools like massage guns. Applying a targeted serum before an LED session can enhance product absorption. Avoid combining with strong chemical exfoliants (e.g. retinol or AHAs) on the same skin immediately before a session, as these can increase photosensitivity.

Do I need to wear eye protection?

For panel and dome devices emitting high-irradiance light, we recommend keeping your eyes closed or using protective goggles during treatment. Wearable face mask devices (such as the ECLIPSE) are designed for close-proximity use and typically have integrated eye coverage — refer to your specific product guide.

Facial Devices

Can I use the ECLIPSE Face Mask with serums?

Yes — applying a serum before your session can enhance light absorption and skin permeability, helping active ingredients penetrate more effectively. The ECLIPSE is wireless and fully hands-free, so you can relax during your 15–20 minute session. Avoid heavy occlusive creams immediately before use as these can block light transmission.

What is the difference between the ECLIPSE Face Mask and the Red Light Dome?

The ECLIPSE Face Mask (£105.99) is a wearable, wireless mask covering the face and neck for targeted, portable treatment — ideal for daily at-home use. The Red Light Dome (£167.99) is a full-canopy system with an integrated nano moisture mist, designed for an immersive, salon-style facial at home. The Dome delivers a broader treatment field and simultaneous hydration — ideal if you want both light therapy and skin plumping in a single session.

What does the HIFU device do differently from LED devices?

The HIFU Professional Device uses High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound combined with EMS microcurrent — stimulating collagen remodelling at the SMAS layer (the same layer targeted in surgical facelifts). This produces a deeper structural lifting and tightening effect. LED devices work at a cellular level to repair, renew, and rejuvenate surface and mid-tissue skin. The two modalities complement each other well: LED for consistent daily skin health, HIFU for targeted lifting and contouring 2–3 times per week.

Can I use the EMS Red Light Eye Massager daily?

Yes — it’s designed for daily use and is lightweight enough for home or on-the-go use. It combines EMS microcurrent (to firm and lift the muscle around the eye) and red light therapy (to boost collagen and smooth fine lines). It’s particularly effective for reducing puffiness and dark circles caused by poor circulation, and for relieving eye fatigue from prolonged screen use.

How do I use the HIFU device safely?

Apply a conductive gel to the treatment area before each session and glide the device slowly using the recommended grid pattern from your user manual. Session duration is 10–15 minutes per area, 2–3 times per week. Avoid bony prominences, the eye area, and active breakouts. Do not exceed the recommended frequency — results develop gradually over 4–8 weeks as collagen remodelling progresses.

Body & Recovery Devices

Can the Body Pad be used on any body part?

Yes — the Targeted Red & Infrared Light Therapy Body Pad is fully flexible and designed to wrap around virtually any area including knees, shoulders, lower back, elbows, and ankles. It features 1,080 dual-chip diodes (360 at 660nm, 720 at 850nm) for therapeutic-grade coverage across the full pad surface. Sessions of 10–20 minutes per area, once or twice daily, are recommended. It can be used over light clothing or directly on skin.

What is the difference between the S400 Panel and the Dual Chip LED Panel?

Both panels emit 660nm and 850nm dual-wavelength light simultaneously. The S400 Panel (£349.99) is a 400W professional-grade panel delivering high irradiance across a large surface area — suited for full-body treatment and serious recovery protocols. The Dual Chip LED Panel (£314.99) is a versatile everyday panel with a built-in timer, designed for consistent daily skin and recovery sessions. Both are excellent — the S400 is the stronger choice if power output and coverage are your priority.

How far should I position the light therapy panel from my body?

Distance affects both irradiance and coverage area:

  • 15cm — higher irradiance, more targeted. Ideal for skin benefits (face or localised body area).
  • 30cm — broader coverage with slightly lower intensity. Ideal for large muscle groups, deep tissue recovery, and full torso or leg treatment.

Start at 30cm if you are new to red light therapy and gradually move closer as your skin acclimatises. Always refer to your product manual for device-specific guidance.

Can I combine the Body Pad and a Panel in the same session?

Yes — many users target a specific joint or area with the Body Pad while simultaneously using a Panel for broader coverage. There is no contraindication to using both simultaneously, and it can help maximise treatment time efficiency.

Massage Guns & Recovery Tools

Which massage gun should I choose?

  • 11-in-1 Massage Gun (£59.99) — best for versatility. With 11 interchangeable heads and 99 adjustable speed levels up to 3,200 RPM, it covers everything from large muscle groups to precise trigger point work. Ideal for athletes and all-round daily use.
  • 3-in-1 Long-Handle Massage Gun (£55.99) — best if you need to self-treat your lower back and upper spine without assistance. The detachable long-handle extension and splitting strap give you three configurations to reach every muscle, including areas that are normally hard to access solo.
  • 6-Head Multi-Point Massager (£49.99) — best for large muscle areas where coverage matters. The dual-handle ergonomic frame lets you apply firm, controlled pressure across the lower back and shoulders simultaneously, without assistance — ideal for daily maintenance and chronic muscle fatigue.

Can I use a massage gun before exercise?

Yes — percussive therapy is effective both pre-workout (as a dynamic warmup to activate muscles and increase blood flow) and post-workout (to flush lactic acid, reduce delayed onset muscle soreness, and accelerate repair). Apply for 30–60 seconds per muscle group. Avoid bony areas, joints, varicose veins, and broken or inflamed skin.

How do I clean and maintain my massage gun?

Wipe attachment heads with a damp cloth or mild disinfectant wipe after each use. Do not submerge the device in water. Store in the provided carry case to protect the motor and heads. Charge fully before extended storage.
